Controller
Waltham, MA - HYBRID 3 days ONSITE, 2 days remote (flexible)
$75-110/hour
6-month Contract with possibility of extension
Our international software client based in Waltham, MA is seeking a temporary Controller to join their team in support of a system implementation. This role will focus on global accounting operations and transformation initiatives, serving as a key partner to leadership. The position balances technical accounting oversight with driving process improvements across multiple international entities.
Top Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance required.
- 10-15 years of progressive, hands-on accounting experience, including the past 5 years in a Controller or comparable leadership role
- CPA strongly preferred
- Big 4 audit background required.
- 5+ years Leadership experience in Complex, Multi-Entity Global Organization
- Strong IFRS and GAAP expertise required.
- Software industry experience highly preferred
- Proven ability to lead globally, partner with executives, and support distributed teams across time zones.
- Experience driving operational and strategic initiatives, including shared services/offshoring and IFRS 15 awareness.
- Excellent communicator with strong influencing skills, adaptability, and ability to thrive in fast-paced environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor global close and escalate key issues.
- Identify pain points and inconsistencies across global GL processes and drive improvements.
- Ensure accurate financial reporting and audit-ready documentation across entities.
- Provide technical accounting guidance and operationalize solutions for global teams.
- Support ongoing global refinement of Deferred Commissions / Deferred Cost processes (IFRS 15 awareness required).
- Address complex international accounting matters without direct journal entry ownership.
- Partner with corporate on technical conclusions and ensure global alignment.
- Lead and support offshoring strategy (India/Malaysia), including process evaluation and transition execution.
- Help redesign team structures across Americas and Europe to optimize cost and efficiency.
- Improve coordination across GL, FP&A, Treasury, AP, and external partners (e.g., equity/stock plan administrators).
- Oversee statutory reporting and financial statement certification across multiple international entities.
- Monitor entity financing needs, including capitalization, intercompany loans, and dividend processes.
- Coordinate global audit planning and track statutory audit progress.
- Quarterly system access reviews
- Annual risk assessments (including anti-corruption)
- Support internal audit activities and remediation efforts.
- Acts as a key partner to global lead (based in France)
- Supports a team of ~7 globally.
- Role blends hands-on operational oversight with strategic transformation initiatives
- Backfill for a highly visible, dual-scope role (operational + strategic)
